An AVIF photograph can look excellent in a current browser yet fail in an older editor, publishing system or attachment preview. A JPG copy solves that compatibility problem, but the change is not neutral: the browser decodes AV1 image data, reduces it to a canvas image and encodes those pixels again with JPEG compression.

AVIF can hold efficiently compressed imagery, alpha, high bit depth, wide color gamut and HDR signaling. JPG is less flexible, but it is understood by an exceptionally broad range of websites, office applications, printers and photo tools. This route is therefore useful for a delivery copy, not as a replacement for an AVIF master.
The conversion depends on the current browser being able to decode the particular AVIF. Once decoded, FileConvertEasy sends the visible raster to the browser JPEG encoder. AV1 coding choices, auxiliary images, sequences, depth information and AVIF container metadata do not travel into the JPG.
Many AVIF files are already lossy. Encoding their decoded pixels as JPG introduces a second lossy stage, so a high-quality source does not guarantee an artifact-free destination. Fine hair, foliage, text over photographs and sharp color boundaries are sensible places to compare before and after images.
JPEG/JFIF has no alpha channel. If the AVIF contains transparency, choose the background on which it should be flattened instead of leaving that decision to a later application. HDR or wide-gamut values may also be mapped into the canvas color representation, making color and highlight review important.
Judge the JPG in the application that will publish or print it. Compare shadow detail, bright highlights, saturated colors and smooth gradients, then inspect fine texture at full size. Avoid enlarging during conversion because resampling cannot create detail that was not present in the decoded AVIF.
A quality control that looks acceptable in a small preview may still damage subtle texture when the file is enlarged or printed. Conversely, using an unnecessarily high setting may not repair an AVIF that was strongly compressed before conversion. Evaluate the actual derivative at its expected viewing size and retain enough margin for any later platform recompression.
