If the source uses variable frame rate, uncommon audio layouts, or multiple segments, inspect transitions and late sections rather than approving from a short preview.
HDR and color need cautious language. Matroska can signal mastering and color data, but the destination's H.264 path and player may not interpret or preserve it. Watch the output on the real display chain and look for clipped highlights, lifted blacks, hue changes, or washed-out contrast. Keep the MKV whenever its richer tracks or mastering information remains important.
